Lipetsk Tops Russia’s 'IQ Cities' Ranking Thanks to Smart Tech

At the 'Cities of the Future' forum in Perm, experts and officials highlighted how AI is transforming utilities, urban safety, and public services in Lipetsk.

Lipetsk has taken the top spot in Russia’s 'IQ Cities' ranking, while the Lipetsk region placed among the country’s top six regions for adopting advanced technologies. The results were announced at the 'Cities of the Future' forum in Perm, where experts, government officials, and businesses discussed the modernization of utilities and urban safety, according to local media.

The region now operates more than 15,000 surveillance cameras that assist law enforcement, detect fires, track stray animals, and even identify potholes on roads—AI automatically forwards the data for immediate repair. Smart technologies are also being deployed in forestry, where drones analyze tree conditions, and in agriculture, where algorithms predict crop yields. In multi-service centers, AI detects system failures and speeds up citizen services. The Lipetsk housing inspectorate already uses neural networks to sort public requests, with plans to boost processing speed by 30 percent by the end of the year.

Particular attention was given to 'Nika,' a voice assistant developed by local engineers. It helps residents schedule medical appointments, request home visits, and even assists doctors with diagnostics.
