A team of Severstal IT professionals has developed a system to manage the steel ladle fleet at the Cherepovets Steel Mill. It pulls data from multiple sources, while algorithms automatically issue alerts when they detect anomalies.

The new system has also helped stabilize maintenance schedules and optimize workloads for maintenance staff. It reduces downtime for continuous casting machines and furnaces by giving supervisors a real-time view of the status and location of every ladle.

The company noted that the automation is not intended to replace people. Instead, it serves as a reliable tool to support their work.

“The new software offers several important advantages, both in terms of easier maintenance and business needs: preventing accidents, conserving refractory materials and reducing defects. We plan to continue developing the tool and adding new features,” said Vyacheslav Voskoboynik, lead professional in technological automation for steelmaking at Severstal IT.
