Lovozersky Mining and Processing Plant, part of Rosatom, has put the remotely operated Betonolom 2000 RN robotic system into pilot operation. The machine, developed by specialists at the Russian company Robotekhnics LLC, is designed to perform the most dangerous underground work, including removing loose and unstable rock, breaking up hard rock masses and other operations.

The compact machine can easily maneuver through narrow passages. It is controlled by an operator via a wired or radio connection, allowing the operator to remain at a safe distance from areas where rock could potentially collapse. Its hydraulic system generates enough power to break even the hardest materials.

“Miners at Lovozersky GOK work in some of the harshest conditions in the country — beyond the Arctic Circle and deep inside a mountain. The company’s first robot sends a signal that advanced technologies are reaching the places where they are needed most. We will determine the overall economic impact of deploying the robot in the coming months,” said Vitaly Podlesny, deputy director general for Rosatom Production System development and digitalization at Rosatom Nedra.
