Nizhny Novgorod Agriculture Ministry to Deploy AI Against Invasive Hogweed
The Agriculture Ministry of Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region has signed an agreement with Sber to introduce digital technologies for combating invasive and weed species. The partnership was announced during the TsIPR conference.

One of the primary targets for the new AI tools will be Sosnovsky hogweed, one of the region’s most aggressive invasive plants. Officials say the technology will help systematize data on the weed’s spread and support the development of a more effective eradication strategy.
Efforts to eliminate hogweed on agricultural land are currently being carried out by the state-run Agrotekhkhimtsentr. In 2025, treatment operations covered 700 hectares across 19 municipalities. In 2026, authorities plan to expand the program to 1,200 hectares.
