Novosibirsk Researchers Develop AI Algorithms to Maintain Air Quality Sensor Accuracy
Researchers at the AI Center of Novosibirsk State University have developed AI algorithms that improve the accuracy of air quality monitoring.

The first monitoring station using the new technology is already operating in Novosibirsk’s Oktyabrsky District. The algorithms account for temperature, air composition, wind, and seasonal changes. They also compensate for the gradual degradation of sensor performance, which can undermine the consistency of readings even when sensors are properly calibrated.
The team developed the system for CityAir. In the future, these devices could be installed in small spaces, including on urban infrastructure poles. This would allow the monitoring network to expand without requiring a separate shelter at every site.
The university noted that the project marked a shift for the AI Center from basic research to applied work addressing a client’s needs.
