New Stars of Galaktika: How St. Petersburg Is Training IT Talent for Big Business

Students at the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation will take part in developing next-generation ERP systems for the rocket and space industry.

The St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI) and Galaktika Corporation have joined forces to train IT professionals. Students will gain access to project-based work and hands-on experience in how next-generation ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems are developed and implemented – from complex architectures to the use of AI in business processes.

This approach will make it possible to build education around real-world challenges, SUAI Rector Yulia Antokhina said: “The partnership with Galaktika offers a unique opportunity to give students deep, hands-on exposure to the development and implementation of advanced IT solutions. Bringing the experience of major industry players into the educational process, particularly in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, opens a path for students to tackle some of the most complex challenges facing Russia’s economy and industry.”

Space-Scale Ambitions

Galaktika has been operating since 1987 and has completed more than 6,500 projects for over 1,200 customers across key sectors of the Russian economy. The company was the first in Russia to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into the ERP development process.

The partnership with SUAI also provides for the possibility of co-financing education in IT programs under the Iskusstvenny intellekt (Artificial Intelligence) federal project, part of the Ekonomika dannykh i tsifrovaya transformatsiya gosudarstva (Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State) national project. Galaktika is expanding its cooperation with universities so students can gain exposure to real-world systems development while they are still studying.

The company has extensive experience developing enterprise systems for the rocket and space industry, including work with the state corporation Roscosmos. Galaktika and Roscosmos signed an agreement – more precisely, a memorandum on strategic partnership through the end of 2030 – on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The two will create a unified system for production management and interplant cooperation. The partners aim to achieve full technological independence for Russia’s rocket and space industry.

“For Galaktika, this is a strategic step that takes our accumulated expertise to the industry level,” Alexey Telkov emphasized. The project will build on solutions refined on the shop floors of the V.P. Glushko NPO Energomash rocket-engine manufacturer. Their implementation has fully automated financial and business operations at every level – from the enterprise as a whole to individual workshops and workstations.

Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Bakanov believes the partnership will not only help overcome dependence on foreign platforms but also take ERP efficiency and transparency to a new level. The system will integrate procurement, sales, warehousing and inventory management processes across the entire production network.

144 Hours of ERP

In the context of Galaktika’s cooperation with SUAI, its educational work deserves particular attention. The company has been actively developing this area. Over its history, Galaktika has carried out more than 50 university digitalization projects with the participation of Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In April 2026, Galaktika received a state license to provide educational services.

Russian vendors are increasingly bringing their technologies into the classroom. One notable example is a partnership agreement between Basalt SPO and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. Alt operating systems were installed in classrooms, instructors received certification, and students gained an opportunity to study system administration. Another example comes from Yugra State University, where students completed a 144-hour human resources management course based on Galaktika ERP. They worked with a production-grade ERP system while studying electronic HR document management, time tracking and workforce analytics.

Competing at the International Level

Russia’s push to replace imported enterprise software is moving beyond the goal of merely “creating an equivalent” and into its next phase – building an ecosystem of developers, architects and analysts around Russian software. The Galaktika ERP platform already competes with Western products in functionality and performance. At one of Russia’s largest infrastructure companies, the system processed payroll for 800,000 employee accounts in just four hours. An end-to-end logistics operations test under a load of 10,000 users, meanwhile, showed transaction processing speeds 20 times faster than the target benchmarks.

The Galaktika-SUAI partnership appears likely to develop productively in several areas at once. Courses based on Galaktika technologies could emerge, for example, with company employees teaching students. The partnership is also expected to offer promising internships and opportunities for students to work on Russian ERP, EAM and MES implementation projects – including projects that are, quite literally, on a space scale.

For an IT professional, knowing the technology is not enough – it is important to understand the problems that technology solves. This is especially true in the enterprise sector, where IT solutions are tied to business processes and directly affect a company’s results. That is exactly why we are steadily expanding our cooperation with universities, so students can become familiar with the practical side of developing such systems while they are still studying.
