RED SOFT Releases Updated OS for ARM Devices
RED SOFT has released RED OS 8.0.3, a maintenance update to its operating system for the ARM architecture, adapted for a broad range of hardware, from Russia’s Baikal processors to popular single-board computers.
The ARM version can be used to build embedded systems, IoT devices, educational testbeds and energy-efficient server systems. Running the same operating system across different types of devices allows companies to standardize their IT infrastructure, simplify administration and reduce support costs.
The biggest change is that a single image now supports multiple ARM devices. Users select the required hardware during installation, and the operating system is deployed with the appropriate Linux kernel. Out of the box, it supports platforms powered by Huawei Kunpeng and Ampere Altra processors, as well as devices based on Baikal-M and Baikal-S chips from Elpitech, Aquarius and Graviton. RED SOFT has also expanded support for single-board computers, adding Raspberry Pi 3+ and Orange Pi Zero 3 and updating images for Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 and other previously supported models. Users can choose KDE Plasma, MATE or GNOME as their desktop environment, or opt for a minimal configuration without a graphical interface.
