Russia Advances Nuclear Education with New Master's Program in Atomic Technologies

A new federal master’s program in atomic technologies will train specialists to meet the growing demand for nuclear expertise in Russia’s high-tech industries.

Russia is launching a new master’s-level educational track in atomic technologies to address the country’s strategic need for highly qualified specialists in nuclear science and related sectors. The program is designed to support the development of domestic production capabilities for complex, science-intensive goods and will be integrated into the federal network of higher education institutions.

The initiative is spearheaded by the state nuclear corporation Rosatom and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It will enroll students into a unified academic pipeline, offering them interdisciplinary training in nuclear physics, engineering, and digital technologies.

Participating universities will include key national research institutions and regional universities with strong engineering programs. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience through internships at research centers and nuclear facilities.

According to officials, the program responds to industry demands for professionals capable of driving innovation in energy, medicine, microelectronics, and advanced manufacturing—all fields where nuclear technology plays a growing role.

Rosatom has stressed the urgency of replenishing the talent pool for Russia’s nuclear sector, which is rapidly expanding amid global interest in low-carbon energy solutions and domestic efforts to ensure technological sovereignty.
