Russians Will Soon Be Able to Connect Gas Service Online

Starting in 2026, Russia will digitize one of its most essential utilities, allowing citizens to sign gas supply and maintenance contracts entirely online.

From March 1, 2026, residents across Russia will be able to remotely sign contracts for gas supply and equipment maintenance—no in-person visits required. The new measure, signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, is part of the country’s broader push to digitize public utilities and make key government services accessible through a single online window.

Contracts can be completed through the national Gosuslugi portal, regional websites, or the official pages of gas providers, using either a basic or enhanced electronic signature. Until now, citizens could only file initial applications for gas connections online. The new system streamlines the entire process, making it faster and more transparent for users while reducing the administrative burden on gas companies and regulators.

Russia’s utility sector has been undergoing a rapid digital transformation. One example is the Gosuslugi Dom platform, which lets users submit meter readings via smartphone camera, pay bills, contact property managers, and track building maintenance and renovation projects—all remotely.
