Russian Neural Network for Script Analysis Speeds Up Selection of Promising Film Projects

Artificial intelligence is reshaping Russia’s film industry by cutting the time needed for a preliminary script review from 10 hours to just 10 minutes.

A new AI model developed in Russia can conduct a full primary analysis of a screenplay in under 10 minutes, dramatically changing how major studios and streaming platforms evaluate projects.

The system was created and deployed by MTS Media, according to Alexey Arefyev, the company’s portfolio management director. The solution was designed to handle a massive influx of submissions: KION, the online cinema service within the group, receives around 500 scripts each year. Previously, editors could spend up to 10 hours reviewing each script, even though only about 16 TV series and 5 films typically went into production annually. With the new tool, that process now takes only minutes.

To build the algorithm, specialists mapped out the evaluation process in detail and processed hundreds of texts. Scripts were broken down into key parameters that formed the training base for the model. Interaction is simple: a script is uploaded to a dedicated chatbot, where the AI evaluates it against preset criteria and generates a detailed report with recommendations for editors.

The neural network assesses the logic and coherence of the plot, narrative flow, character depth, and motivations. It also evaluates the anticipated scale of visual effects and the technical complexity of production.

While the technology does not replace human experts, it significantly boosts their efficiency by filtering out weak projects faster and surfacing promising ideas from the flood of submissions. This accelerates decision-making and enables studios to bring more high-quality content to audiences.
