Russian Steelmakers Boost Output Through Robotics
Strategic investments in automation are making Russia’s metallurgical industry faster, more efficient, and better equipped to meet global market demands.

At a plant owned by global pipe-making leader TMK (Trubnaya Metallurgical Company), engineers have upgraded a robotic system for labeling seamless pipes.
The new high-speed robot can stamp 17 characters in just 20 seconds, working around the clock to mark up to four pipes simultaneously—twice as fast as the previous equipment. The autonomous system is synchronized with the production line, allowing the machinery to run at optimal speed.
This innovation is part of TMK’s large-scale Digital Production program. Back in March 2025, the company introduced an automatic system for reading pipe markings on the fly. Together, these projects show how Russian steelmakers are embracing automation across all stages of production—from quality control to logistics.
