Russian Cybersecurity Experts Use AI to Combat Online Threats

As cybercriminals turn to AI to generate phishing websites and emails, Russian specialists are fighting back with machine intelligence of their own.

At the Finopolis financial technology forum, Anton Ivanov, Chief Technology Officer at Kaspersky Lab, discussed how artificial intelligence is reshaping the cybersecurity landscape. According to Ivanov, fraudsters now use neural networks to automatically generate phishing pages and messages, making digital scams easier and faster to create. But AI, he noted, is also becoming one of the most powerful tools for defense.

Kaspersky Lab highlighted the positive role of artificial intelligence in its security ecosystem. The company employs AI models to detect phishing websites and fraudulent emails. In addition, optical character recognition (OCR) technology helps uncover malicious text embedded in images on phishing pages—an increasingly common evasion tactic.

Earlier this year, a Russian bank partnered with Kaspersky Lab to launch a platform that helps businesses assess their cybersecurity readiness and identify potential blocking risks. The system offers concrete recommendations to strengthen protection and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
