Russian Athletes Showcase How AI Is Changing Sports

Gymnastics champions Dina and Arina Averina joined WMT AI founder Igor Nikitin for an open training session that highlighted how artificial intelligence is transforming athletic performance and extending careers.

AI’s impact is spreading across every sector, and sports are no exception. Nikitin predicts that by 2030, everyone will have an AI assistant in daily life. In athletics, AI already helps athletes spot early signs of overtraining, fine-tune workout programs to prevent injuries, and even extend careers.

AI is also used for real-time performance correction. Digital twins in track-and-field training can recommend optimal techniques and pacing. In figure skating, AI tools generate playback videos for coaches to analyze routines, while monitoring physical condition and adjusting sessions to individual metrics.

Earlier, researchers at the Sirius center introduced a VR-based system that evaluates team players’ efficiency. The technology tracks eye movement trajectories, muscle mass ratios, and relative workload, then delivers recommendations to improve performance.
