Russian Scientists Develop Online Calculator to Identify Diabetes Type in Minutes
The new AI-powered tool analyzes patient data and predicts the probability of each diabetes type — aiming to improve early diagnosis and treatment worldwide.

Researchers at Russia’s Institute of Therapy and Preventive Medicine have created an online calculator that can determine a patient’s type of diabetes within minutes. The tool could significantly improve how doctors diagnose and manage one of the world’s most common chronic diseases.
According to Dr. Alla Ovsyannikova, endocrinologist and senior researcher at the institute, the calculator will soon be available to endocrinologists across Russia for use during consultations.
Data-Driven Diagnostics
The program draws on a large national medical database and statistical diagnostic models, allowing it to deliver precise assessments on any device — from desktop computers to smartphones.
A patent for the technology is expected in 2026, after which the system will begin rolling out in clinics across Russia.
While the project is rooted in Russian healthcare, its implications reach far beyond national borders — offering a fast, accessible tool that could make early, accurate diabetes diagnosis a global standard.
