Russian Drone Wins Top Design Award

A sleek new unmanned system from Moscow Aviation Institute has beaten global tech giants at the MUSE Design Awards, earning the Platinum prize for transportation design.

The “Kontur” unmanned aerial system, developed at the Moscow Aviation Institute, has received the Platinum Award in the Transportation Design category of the prestigious MUSE Design Awards. The project—created by the institute’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Center and the Aeromobility Directorate—was recognized for achieving a perfect balance of aesthetics, functionality, and safety.

Developed in collaboration with the Siberian Design Center, the drone was designed for territory surveillance and security operations. Weighing around 10 kilograms, the device runs on AI-powered software that enhances its autonomy and decision-making capabilities.

The Kontur drone can patrol areas independently, respond to suspicious activity, broadcast messages through a loudspeaker, and operate as part of a group. It boasts a 45-minute flight time, a 2-kilometer altitude ceiling, and speeds up to 50 km/h, functioning reliably in temperatures from –20°C to +40°C.

Project head Irina Larionova described the industrial design of Kontur as a fusion of engineering logic and elegance, capturing a sense of advanced technology and precision.
