Russian AI Can Now Scan Thousands of Documents in Seconds

A new system developed by Smart Engines is already transforming banking, government, and transportation workflows across Russia.
Russia has developed a cutting-edge artificial intelligence system capable of scanning and processing thousands of document pages in mere seconds. According to RIA Novosti, the technology is already being used by top banks, telecom companies, the Federal Tax Service, Russian Railways, and Sheremetyevo Airport—demonstrating impressive real-world results.
Vladimir Arlazarov, CEO of Smart Engines, said the system can process 2,500 passport spreads in just 20 seconds—a task that would take a human operator several hours. What’s more, the AI doesn’t require high-powered graphics processors, making it an energy-efficient solution. A single server equipped with the technology can handle up to 10 million documents per day, making it highly scalable for both public and private sectors.
Accuracy has also improved significantly: error rates are down by 26 percent compared to previous versions, and the system is 11 percent faster at interpreting handwritten notes and official stamps.
By slashing labor costs and accelerating data verification, the technology is already yielding measurable economic benefits. Developers are also eyeing healthcare as a next frontier—envisioning applications like real-time analysis of medical records, prescriptions, and insurance documents to help relieve pressure on overloaded medical systems.
