Russian Taxi Service Reveals the AI Innovation Saving It Millions

The country’s first large‑scale AI support agent now handles up to 450,000 weekly requests — accelerating response times and cutting operational costs.

Russian tech company Yandex has deployed an AI‑powered support system inside its taxi service, marking the first time such a solution has been implemented at scale in the country. Instead of traditional call‑center operators, the service relies on a large language model capable of answering customer questions, calling taxis, and helping passengers recover lost items.

Early metrics show that response times in chat have improved by 1.5×. Each week, the system now processes up to 450,000 user requests.

Savings and future plans

According to company representatives, the new AI support agent is expected to save more than $6.7 million per year. Currently, the digital operator handles about 60 percent of all incoming requests. Next year, Yandex plans to automate 70 percent of standard tasks, extending AI assistance to taxi drivers as well.

The company also aims to roll out this technology across other Yandex services, including food delivery and cargo logistics.
