PJSC Rosseti Siberia and JSC Russian Space Systems have signed a cooperation agreement that calls for using Earth remote-sensing technologies to monitor the condition of power lines. The initiative will focus on the Siberian and Far Eastern federal districts, which have challenging climate conditions and extensive power-line networks.

Particular attention will be paid to testing products that process satellite imagery and developing technical approaches for different environments, including hard-to-reach areas and regions with challenging natural and climatic conditions.

The agreement will initially be implemented through a pilot project. At selected sites, the teams will use satellite imagery to conduct a detailed assessment of power-line rights-of-way and the condition of cleared corridors, identifying trees and shrubs, buildings and large structures, as well as areas where timber has been stored or stockpiled.
