Russia’s Starlink Alternative to Go Live in 2025
Roscosmos will begin deploying its Rassvet satellite constellation this December, promising secure internet access across Russia’s most remote regions and setting the stage for global competition.

Dmitry Bakanov, CEO of the state corporation Roscosmos, announced that serial production satellites from the Russian “Rassvet” constellation will be launched into orbit starting in December this year.
Russian State Duma deputy Amir Khamitov highlighted the importance of the project in an interview with IT-Russia, calling it a landmark step:
According to Khamitov, the launch of a domestic satellite network will provide stable and secure internet access even in Russia’s most remote areas—from the Arctic regions to rural villages. He stressed that this is critical for citizens, the economy, and national security.
Earlier reports noted that in 2026 Russian satellite communication and TV operators will introduce special cryptographic protection measures. This will prevent any unauthorized access to satellite controls.
