Russian companies and government institutions spend an average of about 6 million rubles per year (around $72,000, based on the agreed exchange rate) on artificial intelligence, according to a study by analytics firm FinExpertiza. In 2024, advanced technologies were used by 6%, or roughly one in every 17 organizations across business and the public sector.
The largest investments in artificial intelligence come from the financial and insurance sectors, mining, education, information and communications, public administration and social services, manufacturing, transportation and storage, as well as the hotel and restaurant industry.
Spending on AI is highest in major metropolitan areas. Adoption levels also vary significantly by sector. Organizations in wholesale and retail trade are among the most active adopters, alongside education, information and communications, finance and insurance, and transportation and storage.
Where and How
The core of practical demand for intelligent solutions comes from marketing, production, and human resources. Marketing and sales remain the main drivers of digital tool adoption, including customer service automation using chatbots, offer personalization, audience segmentation, and content generation.
Many companies also use AI in production or service delivery. In human resources management, AI is applied to automate recruitment, assess performance, analyze competencies, and support employees through voice and text assistants.
Businesses use AI for automatic transcription of meetings, document preparation, machine translation, and digital assistants, as well as recommendation systems in procurement.
In the security domain, the strongest demand is for biometric access control, video analytics at industrial sites, and intelligent cybersecurity systems. In logistics, AI is used to optimize routes, manage inventories, and automate warehouse operations, including the use of autonomous robots.
