ASTU Robots Win Top Honors at Russian Cup Competition

Teams from Astrakhan State Technical University (ASTU) placed among the winners at the Russian Cup for remotely operated underwater vehicles and unmanned boats. In the remotely operated underwater vehicle category, the university’s designs took first place, while its unmanned boat developers received a bronze medal.
In recent years, remotely operated underwater vehicles and unmanned boats have become increasingly important for the development of Russia’s fishing industry. They enable not only monitoring of water areas but also the creation of detailed 3D terrain models. These data are valuable for both industry operators and researchers conducting scientific studies.
A key factor behind the university’s success at the competition was that all entries were based on its own in-house developments. This suggests that the technologies could move beyond experimental use and be applied in real-world operations.
