More Than 50 Surveillance Cameras Installed at Apraksin Dvor
More than 50 high-resolution cameras have been installed at Apraksin Dvor in St. Petersburg, streaming video around the clock through the Bezopasny gorod (Safe City) program.
Video from the cameras is transmitted to a monitoring center and law enforcement agencies, while the system can recognize the faces of offenders and read the license plates of suspicious vehicles.
“We can obtain information about people who visit Apraksin Dvor. These cameras can read vehicle license plates, helping prevent various incidents and offenses. Eventually, we plan to connect the entire Apraksin Dvor complex to the video surveillance system,” said Veronika Babayeva, director of St. Petersburg’s municipal Office for Inventory and Valuation of Real Estate.
Governor Alexander Beglov said the redevelopment of Apraksin Dvor is part of the city’s efforts to preserve its historic heritage, while smart systems are intended to restore St. Petersburg residents’ confidence in the area. The complex currently has 58 buildings, most of which are designated cultural heritage sites.
