GSTOU Develops Sensor System for Pressure Ulcer Prevention
The new system has potential applications across a wide range of fields.
Researchers at the Grozny State Oil Technical University named after Academician M.D. Millionshchikov have developed a non-invasive sensor system for preventing pressure ulcers in bedridden and low-mobility patients. The system is called Medvol.
The core of the system consists of pressure sensors placed in fabric or under another soft surface. When subjected to load, they alter the electrical signal; a controller then collects the data and transmits it to the software. The system identifies potential risk areas in advance, helping to ensure proper body positioning.
"Potential users of the system include hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, as well as manufacturers of medical beds, anti-bedsore mattresses, and orthopedic products. In the future, the technology's application scope could expand to include athletes and coaches, orthopedists, and manufacturers of smart insoles, chairs, and car seats," said Magomed Pashaev, Vice Rector for Digitalization and Innovation at GSTOU.
