A drone has been deployed in the Irkutsk Region to monitor fire safety at a coal storage facility in the Mugunskiy section near Tulun. The drone patrols the facility around the clock, capturing up to 400 images per day. These are compiled into a single file and compared with images from the previous day. If potential ignition points are detected, the system immediately sends an alert.

“The number of fire hotspots is zero; extinguished fires - zero; new ignitions - zero. This means everything is under control at our coal storage facility. All information is sent as a short report to a chat, where it is visible to both technical control staff and branch management,” said Vadim Kuryanovich, senior foreman of the technical control department.

The drone helps address the risk of spontaneous combustion of brown coal during storage. This can occur due to precipitation, airflow, and exposure to sunlight. In many cases, smoldering develops deep within the material, but the system is capable of detecting these hidden hotspots as well.
