Authorities in the Komi Republic have developed a roadmap for the deployment of unmanned aerial systems, outlining rules for flights, refueling and routing. Speaking at a meeting of the regional Public Chamber, acting Minister of Economic Development and Industry Alexey Prosuzhikh identified priority research areas for the region, according to BNK news agency.

“Today, unmanned systems are not just about what flies. They include devices that can move along the ground, operate inside pipelines, inspect infrastructure and detect leaks in heating, oil and gas networks. They also include systems designed to save lives,” he said.

Since January 1, 2026, the regional ministry of economic development has officially been granted authority over UAV policy.

Building a Digital Twin

“We signed a roadmap last week for the development of unmanned aerial systems in the Komi Republic. This includes flight rules, refueling procedures and designated refueling locations. In the future, we also plan to create a digital twin of the region. If we are already flying, capturing images and collecting data, why not build a real-time model of the republic?” Prosuzhikh said.

He also identified radio electronics as another promising area.

“We have the Progress plant in Vodny, which produces radio-electronic equipment. There are also smaller companies operating in Syktyvkar, Ukhta and Vorkuta that assemble various types of devices. This is a highly promising field,” he added.

If these capabilities are integrated, the region could move toward accelerated development in the sector.
