Ancient Elephant in Perm to Be Assembled From 200 Printed Bones
Specialists at the Moscow company 3DGate have 3D-printed 200 bones of a trogontherian elephant found in the Okhansky District of the Perm region. The skeleton of the ancient mammoth ancestor will be assembled at the Permian Period museum at the Shpagin Plant.

A test assembly has already been carried out, and specialists have worked out methods for securing the frame. The authentic bones are too fragile for a display model, so 70% of the skeleton collected by the Perm Regional Museum's expedition will be shown as a flat layout.
Tatyana Vostrikova, Director of the Perm Regional Museum, said the test fitting was needed to verify all technological details. According to her, the exhibit will arrive in Perm disassembled in October, after which the bones will be tinted so that the exhibit's appearance is close to how the elephant fragments were found in the Okhansky District.
