Researchers at the Institute of Physics and Technology of Petrozavodsk State University have developed a wireless vibration sensor, WVS, with a built-in data analysis system. The new device is intended primarily for mining enterprises.

The work is built on edge computing technology. The sensor does not merely transmit raw data — it analyzes equipment condition on site and provides advance warnings of possible malfunctions.

The equipment has already been tested at stone-processing enterprises in the Republic of Karelia. The technology made it possible to identify operational violations in jaw crushers. This machinery operates under extreme conditions, and taking it out of service for repairs leads to significant financial losses. The new solution enables more accurate scheduling of maintenance.

According to the specialists, the new device stands out for its low cost and its lack of need for complex infrastructure, making the development suitable for large-scale import substitution and the adoption of predictive maintenance in the industry.
