The Institute of Transport Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences is developing an interactive sound environment for airports, railway stations, and transfer zones. It is designed to reduce transport noise and improve passenger comfort. The system's operating parameters will change depending on weather and time of day.

"Our research shows that acoustic comfort in transport hubs is not merely the absence of noise, but a thoughtfully designed sound environment that helps passengers maintain emotional balance and navigate space. We are not trying to silence the city — we are proposing that it sound different," said Gleb Rogozinsky, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Environmental Problems of Transport Systems at the Institute of Transport Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the developers, this approach differs fundamentally from traditional ones, in which noise is masked with background music and other means. It is especially important that the development must not block loudspeaker announcements.

"The experience gained during work on this project is planned to be used to develop the theoretical foundations of acoustic modeling as applied to transport systems, including accounting for building density, climatic conditions, and the operating modes of infrastructure facilities," the institute said.
