Russia Expands Rural Connectivity With New Digital Infrastructure

Remote villages across Russia are now gaining access to high-speed internet and stable mobile service, thanks to the expansion of digital infrastructure into underserved regions

In a recent telecommunications initiative in Russia’s Kirov Region, 16 new cellular base stations were installed, bringing reliable mobile connectivity and broadband internet to more than 2,800 rural residents. The effort is part of a nationwide campaign to close the digital divide and enable digital services in remote areas.

With access to fast mobile internet, residents in isolated areas can now make video calls, work remotely, enroll in online education programs, and access essential government and health services. Officials emphasize that these improvements are not only enhancing individual lives but also opening new paths for rural economic and social development.

Local authorities confirmed that investment in rural digital infrastructure will continue. Another 20 base stations are scheduled for construction, aiming to connect approximately 25 more remote villages in the region.

Telecom providers benefit as well, receiving tax incentives for participation in public infrastructure projects. Several providers are also deploying additional initiatives in the region, such as free public Wi-Fi networks in key community hubs.
