AI-Powered Traffic Cameras in Russia Catch Unlicensed Drivers and More

New “AutoUragan-MS” monitoring system uses neural networks and 360-degree smart cameras to spot violations in real time.

Artificial intelligence is taking on a new role in Russian road safety. In the Rostov Region, authorities have deployed the homegrown “AutoUragan-MS” monitoring system as part of the nationwide Road Safety project.

The network of smart cameras can do more than just clock speeding vehicles. It can detect if a driver has been stripped of their license, if a car is on a wanted list, or if someone is using a phone behind the wheel. The AI also flags unbuckled seat belts, children traveling without car seats, and a full spectrum of traffic violations — from crossing into oncoming lanes to exceeding speed limits.

With 360-degree rotation and weather-resistant performance, the cameras keep watch in all visibility conditions. Experts say the system is already improving driver discipline and could help cut accident rates significantly.
