Russia’s Youth to Present Digital Projects for Adapting Historic Buildings

A new competition in Perm challenges young urbanists to redesign heritage sites for modern use, integrating cutting-edge technology.

In Perm, a unique digital competition is launching for participants aged 14 to 25. Contestants will create innovative projects aimed at adapting cultural heritage sites to contemporary needs. The main requirement is the use of modern technologies.

Young urban planners will work with real historic buildings, developing new functional solutions while preserving the architectural value of the sites. Special attention must be given to integrating advanced technology into spatial planning.

Participants will receive training on using a Russian design system, attend industry-led masterclasses, and study the heritage sites in detail during on-site visits.

The jury will evaluate projects based on three main criteria: first, the urban context and cultural significance of the sites; second, the functionality and design of interior solutions; and third, the quality of landscaping and preservation of the historical appearance.

Additional points will be awarded for high-quality visualizations, innovative approaches, and well-argued presentations. The best projects will be showcased at a plenary session attended by federal and regional government representatives.
