Russia to Map Buildings in Need of Restoration on a Digital Platform

Samara Region is launching a large‑scale effort to digitally map all residential buildings, helping authorities and citizens track structural conditions, restoration needs, and the future of historic housing

Samara Region will create a comprehensive digital map of buildings by June 2026, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev announced during a live broadcast. The platform will display every structure along with detailed information about its physical condition, repair needs, restoration requirements, or designation for demolition.

The project is designed to improve oversight of aging housing stock and preserve the visual character of urban streets.

A Year Dedicated to Preserving Historic Buildings

According to the governor, the coming year will be declared the Year of Historic Building Preservation, with a focus on addressing regional issues tied to older development.

“Starting in January 2026, we will gradually add every building to the digital map and show residents its future path,” he explained. “This will help us control restoration progress and track where outdated or neglected buildings remain.”

The initiative will be overseen by the region’s newly formed Ministry of Urban Planning Policy. The digital map is expected to be completed by June 1, allowing users to obtain full information on each building and determine its long‑term outlook. This approach aims to make urban management more transparent while supporting the conservation of architectural heritage.
