Russia’s Ugra National Park to Develop a Mobile App for Tourists

Ugra National Park in Russia’s Kaluga region is developing a mobile app to simplify access, improve safety, and bring nature closer to millions of visitors — a digital step forward for ecotourism.

Ugra National Park in the Kaluga region has received a federal grant of 3.4 million rubles (about $41,515) to create a free mobile app for tourists. The app is designed as a multifunctional digital platform aimed at making visits to the park more convenient and engaging.

Its key feature will allow visitors to instantly obtain online permits to enter the park, removing the need for paperwork. The app will also function as an interactive guide, offering detailed maps of all hiking routes, descriptions of landmarks, and information on equipment rental points. For independent travelers, integrated audio guides will provide narrated tours.

A dedicated section will focus on safety, featuring information about local wildlife and clear instructions on how to behave when encountering animals in their natural habitat.

The project is a major step in the development of domestic tourism. It’s not just about convenience — this digital companion makes Ugra’s unique landscape accessible to everyone. The initiative illustrates how modern technology can help preserve natural heritage while opening it up to millions of people.
