Researchers at Yaroslav Mudry University (Novgorod) have developed a way to measure how effective digital platforms are when deployed in the agro-industrial sector, according to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The scientists created a unified digital platform for the agricultural sector in Russia’s Novgorod region. The system brings together all market participants in a single digital environment and makes it possible to compare crop yields before and after the introduction of new technologies, track resource allocation, and analyze revenue and cost flows. A proprietary methodology for evaluating the platform’s performance is designed to show how much digital tools actually benefit farmers and the regional economy.

Efficiency Index

The methodology measures several dimensions at once: the platform’s technical characteristics, its economic performance, the social impact on users, and the quality of management decisions made using its data. Taken together, these indicators form an integrated efficiency index.

Among the platform’s key strengths, the researchers highlighted its technical reliability and management effectiveness. They also suggested expanding the system by adding a lending service or introducing a commission-based model for transactions carried out through a digital marketplace.
