In Russia, an AI System Now Calls Police to Stop Vandalism on Playgrounds

Artificial intelligence monitors public spaces, detects suspicious behavior, and alerts law enforcement within seconds.

In St. Petersburg, officials have launched Russia’s first AI-powered security system capable of automatically alerting Rosgvardiya (the National Guard) when it detects vandalism or dangerous behavior on children’s and sports playgrounds. The move marks a new stage in the digital transformation of urban safety, where artificial intelligence now triggers emergency responses without human input.

The system, integrated into the City Monitoring Center, uses a neural network trained to analyze live video and audio feeds from the city’s Safe City surveillance network. When the algorithm identifies signs of aggression, danger, or illegal activity, it instantly dispatches a nearby patrol — no operator required.

Prevention Through Real-Time Response

Officials say the technology demonstrates how AI can be embedded into public administration to enhance safety and efficiency. With the new system, response times are expected to drop to just a few minutes, significantly improving law enforcement’s ability to prevent incidents before they escalate.

By combining machine learning and real-time analytics, St. Petersburg’s initiative redefines how cities maintain public order — shifting from reactive policing to proactive, automated prevention.
