Russia Opens ‘Smart’ Hospital Room for Patient Rehabilitation

A hospital in the Yamal-Nenets region (YaNAO) has introduced a high-tech recovery room designed for soldiers and veterans, where voice-controlled systems help patients focus on healing.

Russia continues to expand the use of advanced technologies in healthcare. In Tarko-Sale, the local hospital has opened the country’s first ‘smart’ ward, built specifically for the rehabilitation of military personnel and veterans, according to the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area’s Department of Health.

The ward is equipped with modern medical technology and the Salute voice-control system. With simple commands, patients can adjust lighting and temperature, turn on a humidifier or electric kettle, or call medical staff—all without unnecessary movement.

Hospital staff stress that this is more than comfort; it is an important part of rehabilitation. The technologies help patients stay focused on recovery. The room is designed for two people, and its first occupant was a serviceman undergoing rehabilitation during leave.

Over the past seven months, more than 100 service members have received restorative treatment at medical facilities across Yamal. The opening of the smart ward marks a step toward personalized medicine of the future, where technology works directly for the benefit of patients.
