Russia Showcases Future Tech for Industry and Healthcare

From exoskeletons to aquaponics, a national festival in Yekaterinburg highlighted Russian innovations that aim to reshape industry, medicine, and food production.

Yekaterinburg hosted the festival “New World: Professions of the Future,” where leading Russian companies presented cutting-edge technologies for industry, healthcare, and agriculture. Among the highlights were diagnostic medical robots, exoskeletons for workers, aquaponic systems for food production, and advances in 3D printing.

One of the central themes was innovation in industry, local outlet Vecherniye Vedomosti reported. To ease the workload for employees, developers unveiled a Russian-built exoskeleton—a lightweight wearable device that reduces spinal strain for workers handling heavy loads or operating on assembly lines.

Healthcare drew attention with a medical robot developed in Perm. The machine can perform basic diagnostics, measuring blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels, while also offering recommendations. Equipped with a built-in glucometer, it points to the potential for automating routine medical check-ups.

Eco-innovation also took center stage. Visitors saw an aquaponic “aquabox” where aquatic organisms such as crayfish and shrimp are raised alongside plants like basil. The plants feed on the waste products of the animals, creating a closed-loop ecosystem. Such systems have applications both in education and in the restaurant industry for producing fresh ingredients.

The festival also showcased 3D-printing technologies that use recycled plastics, new products made from secondary raw materials, robotics complexes, and smart home solutions.

At the close of the event, organizers announced the launch of a nationwide initiative called “Engineers of the Future.” Its goal is to connect employers with the next generation of specialists and encourage universities and colleges to develop new programs for professions that will be in demand in the coming decades.
