Russia Unveils AI-Powered Roadwork Machines

At a major industry expo, engineers showcased a fleet of autonomous construction vehicles and training simulators, signaling a deep digital shift in heavy industry.

At the 2025 StroyDorExpo in Chelyabinsk, Russia rolled out its latest AI-driven construction technology: an integrated system that coordinates three unmanned machines for road building. The autonomous complex uses neural networks to analyze site conditions in real time, assign tasks, and execute operations with no human intervention. Developers say these systems will soon be deployed in quarries and large construction projects.

But the push goes beyond driverless equipment. Artificial intelligence is being woven into two other critical areas: workforce training and remote control. Specialized software builds adaptive simulators that adjust training scenarios to each operator’s skill level, speeding up and improving the learning process.

For remote operation, AI overlays digital data on live video feeds from machine cameras, letting a single operator manage multiple units with a precision that developers claim surpasses human limits.

The result is a closed ecosystem of roadwork automation—AI systems that train operators, take over dangerous or monotonous tasks, and keep construction sites running with minimal human oversight.
