Russian Company Unveils Shmel Satellite Communications Station
The system was developed by the Small Spacecraft Research and Production Center.

The Small Spacecraft Research and Production Center has developed a new satellite communications station called Shmel (Bumblebee). It is designed to deploy a Ka-band communications network in locations without existing infrastructure.
The device can operate beyond the reach of mobile networks, making it suitable for emergency response personnel. It enables reliable data transmission even in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Travel groups and tourists can also take it along on their trips.
According to the developers, about 80% of the product’s manufacturing is localized at the company. Around 60% of the station’s components are made using 3D printing with an advanced engineering plastic reinforced with carbon fiber. This filament offers high heat resistance, resistance to aggressive chemical environments, and excellent mechanical properties.
