Offline QR Payment Service Launches in Russia
A new system from X5 and Alfa-Bank allows shoppers to pay even without an internet connection.

Russian retailer X5 and Alfa-Bank have launched a new payment service called Apelsin Pay, enabling customers to pay for purchases via QR code even when their smartphone is offline.
A unified QR code has been introduced in the mobile apps of Pyaterochka and Perekrestok. It combines both a loyalty card and a payment tool. When a user issues a new Apelsin debit card, it is automatically linked to their digital profile. Existing cardholders can enable the payment option manually in the app settings.
Cashback Included
To make a purchase at checkout or in self-service zones, users simply open the app and present the QR code. The system instantly recognizes the customer as a loyalty program member and offers to charge the linked Apelsin card. Confirmation takes just a few seconds, while all transactions comply with banking security standards.
The Apelsin card offers 7% cashback on purchases at Pyaterochka and Perekrestok, excluding promotional items. The new payment method is already available in more than 26,500 stores nationwide. Project partners also include AlfaStrakhovanie and Beeline.
