Russia Is Introducing a New Approach to Training Cybersecurity Specialists

Russia is introducing a new, practice‑first approach to cybersecurity training by bringing industry and academia together to develop specialists capable of countering fast‑evolving cyberthreats.

A New Model for Training Cybersecurity Experts

Solar, one of Russia’s leading cybersecurity system developers, has partnered with the Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics at HSE University to jointly educate both students and active information‑security professionals. The two organizations are building innovative, practice‑oriented programs and planning collaborative scientific research in cyber defense.

According to Nikita Obidin, Director of Educational Development at Solar, the key challenge today is giving students tools that match the constantly changing tactics of cybercriminals. While students learn classic methods, attackers invent new ones.

“Industry leaders must take part in the educational process, share their experience, and help adapt academic programs to a rapidly shifting cyberthreat landscape,” Obidin emphasized.

Hands‑On Training for Specialists and Executives

A specialized course, “DevSecOps: Secure Development Specialist,” will teach participants how to analyze risks, detect cybersecurity threats, write secure code, and apply all these skills in practice. The program is open not only to students but also to professionals — programmers, testers, and systems analysts.

A shorter educational track has also been created for executive‑level managers. Together with Solar experts, the university will host sessions that break down the modern cyberthreat landscape and the best practices for defending organizations.

A Growing Trend in Russia’s Tech Education

The collaboration between an IT company and a university reflects a broader educational trend in Russia: training specialists for technological fields now requires deep practical immersion. This approach helps strengthen the country’s technological independence, ensuring that new cybersecurity professionals are prepared for real‑world challenges.
