Russian Transport Exams to Use AI Video Monitoring to Catch Cheating
During driver certification exams, a specialized program will prevent candidates from trying to peek at a neighbor’s answers
Russia’s Ministry of Transport plans to introduce a video monitoring system during certification exams for drivers and employees of transport companies. The software will track the behavior of exam candidates and record possible attempts to cheat.
The development of the specialized module for the certification system was commissioned by Rosavtotrans, a federal agency subordinate to the Ministry of Transport. The software complex is already used to test drivers transporting hazardous materials as well as employees of transport companies.
The new module will analyze video from a camera, tracking eye direction and a person’s reactions during testing. If a candidate frequently looks away from the screen or reacts to outside sounds, the system flags suspicious moments and saves the recording.
An Algorithm Against Reminders
A computer equipped with a video camera will monitor the user’s actions during the test. The program will also detect attempts to switch between computer windows or minimize the browser.
Before the exam begins, the system will display a warning in the user’s personal account. Cameras will be installed on the computers used by drivers to take the test.
Examiners Will Review the Footage
The algorithm does not make a final decision about whether a violation has occurred. If suspicious behavior is detected, the system simply saves the relevant video segment. Examiners can then review the recording to determine whether outside assistance or cheating took place. The new function is expected to make the certification procedure more transparent and reduce violations during testing.
