AI Is Taking Over More Coding Tasks in Russia

Use of Yandex’s developer platform SourceCraft jumped 50% in a year as companies turn to autonomous AI agents for faster software delivery.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a full-fledged coworker for Russian programmers. According to the analytics team at Yandex B2B Tech, usage of AI agents on the company’s SourceCraft developer platform grew by 50% over the past quarter alone.

The autonomous agents handle the entire development cycle—from software architecture design to cloud deployment. About 60% of developers use the technology for code generation and modification, 15% for architectural planning, and another 15% for deep searches through technical knowledge bases.

From Routine to Strategy

AI is already eliminating 30–50% of repetitive tasks in corporate development teams, according to a joint report by Yandex B2B Tech and ITMO University. More than 60% of specialists surveyed expect automation to free up time for strategic and creative work.

The economic impact is equally significant. Experts estimate that the introduction of AI agents can save companies $15,000 to $30,000 per developer annually. For a large team of 1,000 developers, that translates into as much as $30 billion in yearly savings.

As Russian tech firms race to embed AI into every layer of software development, the rise of these digital coworkers marks a clear shift: programmers are spending less time typing—and more time thinking.
