Russia Charts AI Roadmap for Industry

Russia’s Skolkovo Foundation has unveiled a roadmap for integrating generative AI into manufacturing, predicting efficiency gains of up to 80% and major reductions in downtime across industries.

The Skolkovo Foundation has presented a detailed plan for bringing generative artificial intelligence into Russia’s industrial sector. According to the new study, the technology could boost production efficiency by 30–80% and cut equipment downtime by as much as 50%. These projections are supported by early successes in engineering, metallurgy, energy, and other sectors, the foundation reported.

An analysis of more than 150 global and Russian case studies shows that AI is already helping accelerate design, minimize downtime, optimize logistics, and reduce excess inventory.

Experts outline three stages of widespread adoption: within 1–2 years, adaptation of open-source models (such as Llama and Qwen) and Russian systems like GigaChat to work with ERP platforms; within 2–3 years, the creation of highly accurate corporate neural networks for digital twins and decision-support systems; and within 3–5 years, the rollout of industry-specific platforms and specialized AI models based on pooled data.

Specialists stress that the potential of the technology is enormous.

“GenAI is already reshaping production management approaches, but this is only the beginning. Companies need to collaborate to develop sector-wide solutions,” said Sergey Dutov, head of Skolkovo’s ProGenAI platform.

The next step is equipment with built-in AI models. In the coming years, Russian enterprises are expected to become even more competitive thanks to these advanced technologies.
