Russia Develops a System for Collecting and Analyzing Field Data

A new wave of proprietary digital systems is transforming how Rosneft collects, analyzes, and uses geological and production data, boosting efficiency and laying the groundwork for next‑generation AI‑driven oilfield management

‘KBD.Basis’: A New Standard for Industrial Data Processing

Rosneft’s digital modernization is driven by a suite of in‑house IT products, the most advanced of which is the patented KBD.Basis platform developed by the company’s Tyumen research institute. The system automatically gathers and validates field data using 300 specialized algorithms, dramatically accelerating preparation for hydrodynamic modeling—an essential step for optimizing production. The platform saves the company up to $380,000 annually and, more importantly, forms a reliable foundation for large‑scale integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into geological workflows.

In parallel, Rosneft is expanding a portfolio of neural‑network‑based tools. For Russia’s largest producing asset, the Samotlor field, engineers and researchers developed AI software capable of analyzing operating data from hundreds of wells. Trained on datasets spanning 2019–2025, the system generates optimization recommendations for each individual well. This solution delivered an economic effect of around $1.1 million in 2025 alone and is now being prepared for deployment across other Rosneft assets.

‘RN-Predix. Saturn’: Integrated Management of the Entire Field

Another milestone in Rosneft’s digital strategy is the integrated production management model embedded in the RN‑Predix. Saturn platform. Unlike many foreign systems, which treat wells and infrastructure as isolated units, Saturn models the field as a single dynamic organism. It analyzes real‑time data from wells, pipelines, and processing facilities, runs multi‑scenario simulations, and builds a one‑month production forecast.

Pilot testing at the Oryebash field increased daily output across 12 wells by 10%. Rosneft plans to scale Saturn to additional fields in the coming years.

The development of proprietary digital platforms such as KBD.Basis, RN‑Predix. Saturn, and neural‑network analysis systems demonstrates not only Rosneft’s competitiveness but also the broader capacity of Russia’s energy sector to independently create world‑class technologies shaping the future of global oil production.
