Russia Is Building a Real-Time Blood Analysis Chip

Scientists in the Russian Far East are developing a device that could deliver a full biochemical analysis in minutes—directly in a doctor’s office.

Researchers at the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have begun work on a breakthrough blood analysis chip. The device is designed to perform a complete biochemical test in just a few minutes, eliminating the need to send samples to a lab. If successful, it could transform both Russian and global medicine, according to TASS.

The implications are wide-ranging. Emergency services, general practitioners, and doctors in remote areas without access to major labs could get instant results, saving precious time in critical situations. The project is part of a larger push to integrate advanced technologies across the Russian Far East, where scientists are already applying artificial intelligence to medicine, oceanography, and biology.

Yury Kulchin, head of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, explained at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok that blood will still be drawn by a medical worker, but then placed into a specialized device with the chip. “It will almost immediately provide an accurate result,” he said. This would eliminate delays from lab processing, accelerate diagnoses, and speed up treatment decisions.
