Russia Expands Advanced IT Training Programs With Industry Support

New university initiatives backed by tech giants like Yandex, Sber, and Rostec aim to accelerate digital talent development — and attract students from abroad.

Russia has launched an ambitious expansion of its IT education programs, with leading universities now offering intensive training for future digital specialists. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, who oversees the country’s digital transformation projects, presented these opportunities during a visit to the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics of Turkmenistan, emphasizing that the programs are open to foreign students as well.

According to Grigorenko, since September 1, Russian universities have rolled out enhanced training programs for high-tech industries, created in close partnership with the private sector. Major companies including Yandex, Sber, and Rostec are helping shape the curriculum — opening interactive labs, offering internships, and providing grants to promising students.

Training for the Digital Future

Currently, 26 universities across Russia participate in the national IT training initiative, while 22 specialized institutions focus on artificial intelligence. The program reflects the country’s growing demand for tech professionals in areas like data science, automation, and AI engineering.

This year, computer science and engineering became Russia’s most popular academic track, attracting nearly 900,000 applications nationwide. The surge in interest highlights both the country’s push for technological sovereignty and the expanding global appeal of its STEM education ecosystem.
