Russia to Launch Its First Mass-Produced Compact Electric Car

Designed for urban environments and delivery services, Russia’s first budget-friendly compact EV is about to hit the market.

Kaliningrad-based automaker Avtotor is preparing to roll out Russia’s first compact electric vehicle (EV), aiming to provide a low-cost, efficient, and city-friendly option for consumers. According to Denis Pak, a spokesperson for the company, the core development work has been completed. Engineers have finalized the powertrain design and completed tests of the reducer, inverter, and electric motor. Preparations are now underway to scale up production.

The project brings together Russian scientists and manufacturers, including the State Research Center NAMI and energy company RENERA, which supplies the vehicle’s battery modules.

Thanks to domestic engineering and localized production, the vehicle promises to be both affordable and reliable. While it’s expected to be particularly popular in the delivery sector, the compact EV also targets a wider consumer base.

Russia is also investing in the expansion of its EV charging infrastructure and mobile apps to support electric mobility across the country.
