Russia May Launch First Nationwide Multi-Network for Mobile Coverage

SberMobile is in talks to create a unified ‘super network’ with major Russian carriers to ensure more stable mobile service.

SberMobile is negotiating with four of Russia’s largest mobile operators to launch the country’s first multi-network system. The project would create a so-called 'super network'—a model already implemented in several countries worldwide. Its main goal is to provide users with more reliable coverage by automatically connecting them to the strongest available network.

For consumers, the benefits are clear: all networks would become accessible, dramatically reducing the chances of being left without signal. The system would automatically select the most stable connection at any given location.

Experts say the project won’t require major new investments. The technical capability already exists, and SberMobile’s services are available in nearly every region of Russia. The key challenge lies in reaching agreements with the 'big four' telecom providers.

Russia’s mobile sector is growing rapidly. Recently, Wildberries, the country’s largest online marketplace, also revealed plans to launch its own mobile network.
