In Russia, Virtual Workplaces Get Real Security

Russia can now deploy secure virtual desktops based on the domestically developed RED OS 8, expanding the use of protected VDI environments.

VK Tech has introduced its Cloud Desktop VDI platform adapted to a Russian operating system. Cloud Desktop is a virtual desktop service in which the operating system and applications run on a server, while users connect to their work environment over a network.

No data is stored on an employee’s local device. Everything remains inside the corporate IT perimeter. This model is used in environments where security and centralized control are critical.

Now on a Domestic OS

Cloud Desktop now supports RED OS 8, a Russian operating system included in the national software registry and certified by the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control. This makes it possible to use virtual workspaces in government agencies and in organizations with heightened information security requirements.

Simple and Reliable

In practice, the setup works as follows. An administrator creates a pool of virtual desktops on a server. Employees connect from their devices and receive the same preconfigured working environment. Updates, access policies, and security settings are applied centrally. This simplifies support and reduces the risk of data leaks.

The platform supports standard remote access protocols, including RDP. The Cloud Desktop client runs stably on the standard edition of RED OS 8, and connections do not require complex configuration on the user’s side.

Dmitry Lazarenko, head of cloud and data services at VK Tech, said that “an import-independent VDI technology stack will help government-owned companies and organizations with elevated security requirements build protected remote work environments”.

RED Soft has confirmed correct client operation and support for standard usage scenarios, including access to corporate applications and desktops within closed IT environments.

VDI based on RED OS 8 is designed for government bodies, industrial companies, and distributed teams. Employees get a familiar desktop experience, while IT departments gain centralized control, consistent settings, and predictable system operation.
